Rice is a wondeful diet

Rice is good. Rice is the staple diet for a large part of India. We have been eating rice for millenniums. Especially for a South Indian rice is synonymous with food. Does a day pass without eating rice? But how many hours, how many minutes and how many seconds have we spent in our life to know how to eat rice, what rice to eat etc.?

What actually is rice? What is its role as food? What kind of rice do we have to eat? How do we nourish ourselves with rice? Let us examine these questions.

Rice is in fact a highly nutritious food. It has fed hundreds of generations. We are the children of, the product of, generations of rice eaters. Rice had created people strong and healthy and full of vitality. But today, as we eat rice, do we enjoy the same kind of health and vitality?

A significant fact about the nutritious rice is not known to many. All or most of the nutritive elements of rice are on the outer layer between the cover and the kernel.

For generations, we ate rice by removing only the outer cover of the paddy, by hand pounding. Such rice remained a nourishing, positive food. But, with the advent of the modern mechanical age, somewhere around 200 years ago we started milling the rice. This milling process removed the outer cover as well as the nutritive inner layer and “polished” the rice. Now, we are offered double polished and even rice with multiple polish.

Rice so polished (once or twice or many times) is no more a nutritious, positive food. It is in fact now a pathogenic food to be kept out of our diet at the earliest. Naturopaths call this rice as “white rice”. White rice is hand pounded rice, minus all the nutrients. It is the milling that makes all the difference.

An interesting fact is that the husk or the outer layer of the rice after milling is used by pharmaceutical industry for their vitamin richness, for manufacture of vitamin pills.

Lets learn about the white rice that we eat regularly these days and even offer to our loved ones. White rice is deficient in vitamin-B. It is less in thiamin by 80%, it is less in Riboflavin by 50%, it is less in pyridoxine by 50% and it is less in Niacin by 33%, according to a study.

Vitamin-E in white rice is almost completely lost. We all know that Vitamin-E is an important and that its deficiency can lead to several problems including early ageing. Loss of vitamin-E means accelerated ageing. Every women reaching menopause is recommended vitamin-E. Every person suffering from skin conditions, hair loss, auto immune disorders like rheumatism, requires Vitamin-E.

White rice is deficient in the wonderful substance called lecithin which is naturally available in paddy and the hand pounded rice. There is a loss of certain amount of helpful protein also.

There is a loss of trace elements like zinc and iron along with the outer layer, which would balance out the cadmium in the kernel of the rice. This is indeed a serious loss. Continuous consumption of white rice will lead to cadmium poisoning or zinc deficiency. This leads to several conditions shaking of some part of the body, automatic, automatic twitching of some part of the body, restlessness, inability to pay attention to a subject long enough (low attention span). Irritability, hyperactivity and such mild psychological conditions are aggravated by zinc deficiency. How many parents are cadmium poisoning their children without their knowledge?

White rice is completely deficient in the fiber beautifully provided by nature on each grain. It is so completely deficient in fiber that we use cooked rice some times as glue. Therefore, is not our experience that we see cooked white rice being used like maida as gum or an adhesive substance? Loss of this fiber is, in my opinion, the most important loss for the modern man.

White Rice is a concentrated food. Therefore, consumption of white rice leads to bleaching of vital micronutrients from the body. It shoots up the sugar levels too fast after it is consumed. It is very harmful for a diabetic patient.

Lets now learn about the brown rice which is the other name for hand pounded rice. Brown rice is the nutritious, un-milled, hand pounded rice. It is therefore, rich in vitamin-B, Vitamin-E, zinc, Lecithin, Protein and the all-important fiber. It is not a concentrated food. It is a wholesome food.

It keeps the body lean, fit, free from cholesterol, free from negative bacteria and well nourished. It helps prevent heart diseases, diabetes and cancer. It controls the ill effects of zinc deficiency and cadmium poisoning. It gives more iron to the blood and more silicon to the skin.

Take the trouble to find out where you get hand-pounded rice in your area. If you have the will you have the way. For decades many families have been eating only hand-pounded rice. Of course they had their share of difficulty in locating a supplier and motivating him to continue to supply. Today, hundreds of my patients are living on hand-pounded rice and re enjoying good health.

Lets all work together for a healthy today and a healthier tomorrow.

This article is a very good input to me. Its true that Rice play very vital role in our day to day life. That too being a south Indian - if there is no rice no food. But unfortunately no soul could have ever thought about this wonderful aspect of the rice. This article inspires one to think about their mere survival about taking rice.
Rice means its only HAND-POUNDED RICE. White-rice is not a rice ITS ALL MOST LIKE A DRY SKIN OF SUGARCANE, THAT HAS BEEN EXTRACTED THOROUGHLY. So let us raise to acknowledge this article by bringing the habit of taking handpounded rice in our daily diet. I have been taking Handpoundedrice in my daily diet from past 2 years as recomended by Dr. D. Bharadwaj. It has played a vital role in enriching my health. I was exhausted, depressed, weak person before 2 years. After taking handpounded rice, raw vegetables and fruits in my daily diet. Now I am ever energetic, healthy and happiest person in my family. It has enhanced the inner healing energy in me. Viral fever, Chicken pox have just visited and got healed soon withing 3 to 5 days which generally takes 10 to 15 days to heal. My skin glows and is soft like a velvet cloth. I have wonderful concentration, good memory. Thanks to Dr. D. Bharadwaj, my physician and mentor to come out with all his good will to publish this article in his blogspot.

Interesting article.

But, whenever I eat rice, my mind and body becomes dull, and avoid it.

I am overweight, and find that fasting keeps my mind alert.

So, for past 3 weeks I have been taking only one food a day. That too a light one.
